Over the semester I read three books. Normally I never read, only when I have to! Creative Writing class taught me that reading is important when it comes to writing. When you read a lot you catch on to diction, literary devices, tone, and ideas. Reading helped me improve my writing in all those ways.
The first book I read was Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. Nineteen Minutes was about a murder happening and people going to court trials to find who killed Peter Houghton. Peter was bullied in school and that's why it takes them so long to try and mind who killed him. The book was a mystery and I think that's why I didn't really like it. I'm not a mystery person so the book was just interesting to me.
The second book I read was The Blind Side by Michael Lewis. I didn't really like this book, which was surprising because I loved them movie. The book didn't really go into detail with the family moral of the story side. The book mainly focused on Michael Oher taking on the sport of football. It gave statistics about the football games and how they went, but the moral of the story was left out. Disappointment.
The last book I read was The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I would have to say this was my favorite book I read. This book was about a little girl who gets kidnapped and killed. The book tells you who killed her, but the family and the police do not know and go looking for Susie and the killer. I liked it as much as I did because of the way Sebold wrote it. It's a mystery to the characters, but not to the reader; therefore, it was a catchy and kept you on the edge book.
Overall, I liked what I read. I could have read better books, but the three I read weren't terrible. I liked how the class showed me that reading actually is extremely important because it helps you become a better writer.
